3 Tips to Create Successful Online Video Advertising

Here's a look at three ways you can put online video advertising to work for your company:

1) Be a storyteller 

There's a reason nonfiction books outsell textbooks--people love a good story. And at the end of the day, effective inbound marketing is all about storytelling. 

When you're conceptualizing your online video, think about the story you want to tell. After all, facts can be incredibly boring unless they're woven into a compelling story that introduces your audience to a character, a setting, some conflict and a resolution. 

No, you don't have to write something as long as "Lawrence of Arabia." All you have to do is quickly and compellingly tell a story and you'll be more likely to keep your audience watching all the way through to the end. 

2) Add value

The average attention span of a human is about eight seconds. That means people aren't going to (or aren't able to) invest a lot of time in things that aren't valuable to them. It also means you're going to have to keep your video relatively short, or incredibly compelling, in order to keep people watching. So add value. 
Solve a problem for your audience. Entertain them. Provide them with some awe-inspiring information that helps them "hack" life. Answer the questions that haven't been answered before. If you can create a video that adds value, you'll wind up with viewership, which is really why you're creating an online advertising video in the first place. 

3) Ask for action

All the viewers in the world won't matter to you unless they take action. So ask for action. 

Make sure to brand your video so viewers immediately associate it with your business or brand. Include links to your website or landing pages (and make them clickable). Be mobile-minded and make sure that your audience can view your video on smartphones and tablets. 

Then make a compelling call to action. "Click here." "Visit our website today." "Share this video with your friends." "Get the special deal now." 

Asking for action is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to inspire your audience to do what you want them to do: make a purchase. It also works. According to the Web Video Marketing Council, 72 percent of businesses that use video say it has increased website conversion rates.
