By now you've reviewed the numbers from our previous article – “Facebook dominates the social media world at the end of 2016; Part 1” – you're eager to drill down even farther and learn how people are actually using social media.

As a business owner, you're smart to do so. Social media holds the promise of bringing new lifeblood to your business and invigorating your bottom line, especially if you partner with a skilled and experienced marketing team.

Review the frequency of visits

How often are adults gravitating to these sites?

  • Facebook draws 76 percent of adults daily and 15 percent at least weekly
  • Instagram draws 51 percent of adults daily and 26 percent at least weekly
  • Pinterest draws 25 percent of adults daily and 31 percent at least weekly
  • LinkedIn draws 18 percent of adults daily and 31 percent at least weekly
  • Twitter draws 42 percent of adults daily and 24 percent at least weekly

Repeated visits on one day are worth noting, too. Fifty-five (55) percent of Facebook users visit more than once a day while 35 percent of Instagram users and 23 percent of Twitter followers need more than one daily “fix.”

Review how visitors mix it up

You might assume an online adult who uses one social media site uses others, too. The center's findings bear out this assumption, with Facebook being the clear favorite. Consider:

  • Of primary Facebook users, 39 percent also use Instagram, 36 percent use Pinterest, 33 percent use LinkedIn and 29 percent use Twitter
  • Of primary Instagram users, 95 percent also use Facebook, 54 percent use Pinterest, 49 percent use Twitter and 48 use LinkedIn
  • Of primary Pinterest users, 92 percent also use Facebook, 57 percent use Instagram, 41 percent use LinkedIn and 38 percent use Twitter
  • Of primary LinkedIn users, 89 percent also use Facebook, 53 use Instagram, 45 percent use Twitter and 43 use Pinterest
  • Of primary Twitter users, 93 percent also use Facebook, 65 percent use Instagram, 54 percent use LinkedIn and 48 percent use Pinterest
